Green and Sullivan become latest members of 200 point club to lead Skyhawks
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 11, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked 11th in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, saw two seniors eclipse the 200 career point plateau on its way to an 18-6 triumph over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Jess Dow Field this afternoon.
Seniors Kayla Green (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) and Heather Sullivan (Andover, Mass./Andover) combined for ten goals and 11 points with each recording the 200th point of their career while leading Stonehill to the victory. Sullivan matched her season-high with six goals, notching her 200th point with her second marker of the game, to finish with 204 career points (170 goals/34 assists). Green also finished the game with 204 points (158/46) after posting five points with four goals and an assist, netting her 200th point with the first goal of the match.
Senior All-American Kelsey Reilly (Hingham, Mass./Notre Dame Academy), who is just 12 points away from 200 career points herself, contributed two goals and an assist for three points, adding two draw controls, a ground ball and caused turnover. Freshman Erin Fritz (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) posted the first three points of her collegiate career with a goal and two assists.

Sophomore Ashley Armstrong (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) posted six saves in 46:43 in goal for Stonehill before yielding to senior Caitlyn Taveira (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola), who was untested over the final 13:17. Stonehill finished with a 33-16 advantage for shots in the contest, held a 15-11 edge in draw controls and forced 21 Southern Connecticut turnovers, while turning the ball over just eight times. Sophomore Nora Anderson (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) finished with nine stops in goal for Southern Connecticut State.
Sophomore Sarah Muise (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) scored four of Southern Connecticut's six goals on the afternoon. Senior Jessica Shaw (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) and sophomore Emily Orser (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) chipped in with markers.
Stonehill never trailed, scoring the first five goals of the game over the opening nine minutes. Green scored two goals during the opening run, including the first goal 11-seconds in, off a feed from Reilly, to reach the 200 point plateau. Reilly added a goal and assist during the run. The teams traded goals in a 36-second span before Southern Connecticut netted three straight markers to pull within two (6-4) with 12:20 left in the half after three straight goals by Muise.
Stonehill regained control by closing the half out with five straight goals, including a pair by Sullivan, in the final 7:17 of the frame, to take an 11-4 lead into halftime. Sullivan reached the 200-point mark with her unassisted tally with 2:51 remaining in the half.
Shaw opened the second half scoring for Southern Connecticut State with a goal 38-seconds in. Stonehill extended its lead to eight (13-5) after a goal from sophomore Keri Gould (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) with 20:21 to play. Muise scored her fourth of the game just 18-seconds later for the Owls, but they wouldn't score again as Stonehill scored the last five goals of the contest. Green scored twice during the closing stretch, while Fritz collected all three of her points during that stretch, assisting on both Green goals.
Stonehill (9-4, 8-2 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday to host top-ranked and reigning National Champions LIU Post for a non-conference clash at W.B. Mason Stadium at 11 a.m. Southern Connecticut State (1-10, 0-8 NE-10) hosts Mercy College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
