Sullivan and Green lead Skyhawks to fifth-straight win
EASTON, Mass. (March 26, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked tenth in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, scored 16 first half goals en route to a 23-6 victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.
Seniors Heather Sullivan (Andover, Mass./Andover) and Kayla Green (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) combined for ten of Stonehill's season-high 23 goals to lead the Skyhawks to a fifth-straight win. Sullivan posted a season-high seven points on four goals and career-best three assists to go with four ground balls, a draw control and caused turnover, while Green scored a season and game-high six goals.
Junior Kelsey Shannahan (Mendham, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored three goals for Stonehill, while senior All-American Kelsey Reilly (Hingham, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) contributed two goals and collected ten draw controls. Freshman Rebecca Matheson (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) posted three points with a goal and two assists, while sophomores Keri Gould (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury), Jillian Yung (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) and Cassandra McGill (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) each chipped in with two goals.

Sophomore Ashley Armstrong (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) posted four saves (all first half) over 40:42 in goal for Stonehill, while senior Caitlyn Taveira (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) registered three stops over the final 19:18. The Skyhawks recorded a 39-15 advantage in shots, a 22-9 margin for draw controls and was successful on 10-of-11 clears, compared to 12-of-20 for Franklin Pierce. Junior Jacqueline Jolles (Hamden, Conn.) finished with seven saves over the first 43:18 in the net for the Ravens, while sophomore Julia Coakley (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) posted three saves over the final 16:42.
Senior Ashley Lamagdeleine (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) led Franklin Pierce with two goals, while classmate Courtney Weber (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) posted a goal and assist with four draw controls.
Green opened the scoring 2:24 into the contest with an unassisted goal for Stonehill, but Lamagdeleine equalized for Franklin Pierce 21-seconds later with a free-position goal. The Skyhawks reeled off the next five goals, including three from Green while Sullivan contributed a goal and assist, to open a five goal lead (6-1) it would not relinquish with 19:45 remaining in the half.
Senior Lindsey Leach (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) broke up the run with her second goal of the year with 14:23 to play, but Stonehill added three straight goals for a 9-2 lead after a Sullivan marker with 10:44 remaining in the half. The Ravens scored back to back goals, including one from Lamagdeleine, to pull back within five (9-4) with 5:29 left in the half.
Stonehill rounded out the half with seven goals to open a 16-4 halftime lead. Shannahan and McGill both netted a pair of markers to key the run. The Skyhawks opened the second half with three straight goals to extend its run to ten and a 19-4 lead with 19:46 remaining after back to back scores from Green. Stonehill's lead would grow to as much as 18 (23-5) after Matheson's goal with 2:25 remaining before Weber wrapped up the scoring with 1:18 on the clock.
Stonehill (5-2, 4-0 NE-10) closes out its three game home stand on Thursday as it hosts American International College at W.B. Mason Stadium at 3 p.m. Franklin Pierce (1-3, 0-2 NE-10) visits Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
