Annarummo & Van Zanen Lead Women's Golf in First Round at NE10 Championship

Skyhawks freshmen are tied for eighth overall as Skyhawks sixth in tightly packed team leaderboard

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 14, 2018) – A pair of freshmen sit tied for eighth overall to lead the Stonehill College women's golf team to a sixth place position after the first round of the 2018 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Golf Championship, hosted by The College of Saint Rose, on the 5,965-yard, par-71 layout at Capital Hills at Albany Golf Course today.

Freshmen Alexis Annarummo and Sloane Van Zanen each carded opening round 82s on a course which played to an 88.21 scoring average on Sunday and are tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard, out of 42 competitors in the field. Annarummo recorded eight pars during her round, posting a 4.56 scoring average on the par 4s, which is tied for fifth in the field, while playing the course's four par 5s at two over par (5.50 average). Van Zanen carded nothing worse than a bogey during her round that saw seven pars, including a string of five-straight on the back nine as she posted a four-over-par 40 on the inward nine. She played the course's five par-3s at two over par and held a 4.67 scoring average on the par-4s.

The freshmen have led Stonehill to sixth place in the team standings with a 352 team score, marking the first time the second year program is competing as a team at the NE10 Championship. The Skyhawks are in a tight pack in the middle of the team standings, which is led by three-time NE10 Champions Merrimack College at 317, three strokes better than defending champion Franklin Pierce University (320). Stonehill is just one stroke behind host Saint Rose (351) for fifth place and seven shots behind fourth place Le Moyne College (345), while leading Assumption College (354) by two strokes. Merrimack's Krystal Knight leads the individual leaderboard by three strokes after a two-over-par 73 opening round.

Freshman Emma Beaulieu finished her first round at 88 for 27th place overall. Sophomore Katelyn Jylkka registered a 100, carding the lone birdie by a Stonehill golfer today, and one of just 26 scored all day by the 42-golfer field, on the par-5 eighth hole. Junior Jennifer Kornacki finished at 103.

The NE10 Championship concludes on Monday, when the second round commences at 9 a.m.
