Women's Golf Wraps Up Inaugural NE10 Championship Appearance

Jylkka improves ten shots on round one score, finishing a stroke shy of season best

HAVERHILL, Mass. (September 25, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's golf program wrapped up its first appearance at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Merrimack College, at the 5,861-yard, par-72 layout at Haverhill Country Club this morning.

Freshman Katelyn Jylkka (Portland, Connecticut/East Catholic) improved on her first round score by ten strokes this morning as she carded a round of 94 – just a stroke shy of her season-low. She posted birdies on the par-4 fifth and par-4 11th holes today, while adding four pars to her round. Jylkka finished the two day championship in 32nd place, moving up one spot from Sunday, with a two day score of 198. Sophomore Jennifer Kornacki (Simsbury, Connecticut/Simsbury) posted a score of 119 today for a two-day total of 235, while freshman Francesca Feola (Bellingham, Massachusetts/Bellingham) shot 147 today for a two-day score of 283.

Franklin Pierce University won its first NE10 Championship with a two-day team score of 618, after today's 308, to edge Merrimack College (311-309=620) by just two strokes. Merrimack's Krystal Knight won the NE10 individual crown with a two-day score of 2-under par 142, shooting even-par 72 that erased a three-shot deficit following the first round.

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday and Sunday, October 7-8, when it competes at the Penmen Columbus Day Invitational, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University, at Derryfield Country Club in Derryfield, New Hampshire.
