Jylkka leads Skyhawks at first ever event with 25th place finish

HANOVER, N.H. (September 4, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's golf program wrapped up the first event of its inaugural season with 27-holes of golf on day two of the Penmen Labor Day Classic, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University, at Hanover Country Club today.

After cold and rainy conditions limited competition to just nine holes on Sunday, bright sunny skies greeted the golfers on Monday morning. Stonehill freshmen Katelyn Jylkka (Portland, Connecticut/East Catholic) and Francesca Feola (Bellingham, Massachusetts/Bellingham), as well as sophomore Jennifer Kornacki (Simsbury, Connecticut/Simsbury) made program history by competing in the College's first event of its inaugural season after being introduced as the College's 21st varsity sport last October.

"It was a historic and exciting moment to watch Stonehill tee it up for the first time," said head coach Nick Crovetti. "I am happy and proud of the founding three members."

Jylkka led the way for Stonehill over the 5,826-yard layout with a two-round score of 189 to finish 25th in the field overall. She followed up her score of 49 over nine holes yesterday, with 44 over the second nine, for a first round score of 93, and then carded a 96 in the second round.

Franklin Pierce University took the team title with a two-day score of 613, edging Merrimack College (619) by six strokes. Merrimack's Krystal Knight and Alessandra Ricigliano shared medalist honors with even par scores of 144.

Stonehill is off for three weeks until it makes its first trip to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Merrimack, at Haverhill Country Club, Sunday and Monday, September 24 and 25.
