Women’s Golf Receives First NLI

East Catholic High School senior and Portland, Connecticut, native is first commit in program history

EASTON, Mass. (April 13, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's golf program has its first official commitment with Katelyn Jylkka from Portland, Connecticut, and East Catholic High School in Manchester, Connecticut, signing a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend the College and compete in the women's golf program's inaugural season this coming fall.

"I am excited to announce the signing of our first ever NLI at Stonehill for the sport of women's golf," said Nick Crovetti, head coach of the Stonehill women's golf program. "Katelyn will have an immediate impact on our program given her state and regional tournament experience. She epitomizes what it means to be a Skyhawk."

Jylkka is a two-time Hartford Courant All-Scholastic, All-State and All-Central Connecticut-North honoree at East Catholic High School, where she has been named team MVP three times, helping lead the Eagles to appear in the Connecticut State Championship her junior year. She has carded a low round of 76, was champion of the SANDRI Junior Invitational (83-76=159), runner up at Cas Coscina Memorial (83-81=164) and fourth at the Connecticut Junior PGA Championship (84-83-167).

Jylkka is among 12 Connecticut Section PGA junior members selected to represent and compete at the Remy Cup matches against members of the New England Section PGA Junior Golf Association.

Stonehill announced in October that it will become the ninth Northeast-10 Conference member to offer women's golf, joining Adelphi University, American International College, Assumption College, Franklin Pierce University, Le Moyne College, Merrimack College, The College of Saint Rose and Southern New Hampshire University. The Skyhawks, under the direction of Crovetti, will begin competition this coming fall. Prospective student-athletes interested in competing as a member of Stonehill's varsity women's golf team can contact coach Crovetti at rcrovetti@stonehill.edu for further information.
