28 turnovers and 29-percent shooting hinders Skyhawks
ROCKVILLE CENTER, N.Y. (November 16, 2019) – Molloy College forced 28 turnovers and held Stonehill College, ranked No. 5 in the D2SIDA East Region preseason poll, under 30-percent shooting in posting a 51-38 victory to open the Molloy Classic at Quealy Gymnasium this afternoon.
Postgrad Kadijah Dickson led three from Molloy in double figures with 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting, with eight rebounds (four offensive) and five steals, while junior Giolibeth Perez totaled 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and nine steals for the Lions. Senior Jenna Stilletti followed with ten points and three boards, while junior Marthe Guirand pulled down a game-high ten rebounds (five offensive) and blocked two shots to go with four points.
Senior Gabrielle Reuter was the lone Stonehill player in double-figures with a season-high 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, adding five rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Classmate Grace Carter followed with nine points, four rebounds and two steals, while sophomore Sophie Glidden chipped in with eight first half points and four boards. Sophomore Isabelle Santoro grabbed a team and career-high nine rebounds for the Skyhawks.

Molloy took a five-point lead (14-9) after a quarter of play after Stonehill turned the ball over ten times in the opening ten minutes. Perez scored the last four points of the quarter for the Lions and the hosts held the Skyhawks scoreless for the first six minutes of the second quarter to open a ten point lead (19-9). Perez scored the first basket of the second frame with a three-pointer and then Stilletti added a layup for Molloy.
Stonehill stayed in touch with solid defense of its own, limiting Molloy to 31.3-percent shooting in the first half, and was back within seven at the break (21-14) thanks to a Glidden three-pointer. Molloy maintained a six to eight point lead throughout an evenly played third quarter and then grabbed an 11-point cushion (36-25) after a three-pointer from senior Kathryn Gibson a minute and a half into the fourth.
Stonehill responded with a three-pointer by senior Kelsey Shaw and Reuter jumper to trim the deficit to six (36-30) with 5:43 to play, but would get no closer. Molloy sealed the win with a 9-2 spurt to open a 13-point lead (45-32) after a Dickson layup with 1:40 to go.
Stonehill (2-1, 0-0 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow, when it faces University of the Sciences, ranked No. 17 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II preseason poll and 21st in the D2SIDA preseason national poll, here at noon. The Skyhawks home opener is next Saturday, when it hosts Saint Michael's College for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Merkert Gymnasium at 1:30 p.m. Molloy (2-1, 0-0 ECC) hosts Assumption College tomorrow at 2 p.m.
