Raymond Collects Fifth NE10 Rookie of the Week Award

EASTON, Mass. (January 7, 2019) – Stonehill College freshman forward Kayla Raymond has earned Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the fifth time this season, the league office announced today.

Raymond earned All-Tournament team honors at the Stonehill Holiday Classic on December 29-30 as she averaged 13 points, four rebounds, 2.5 blocked shots, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists over the Skyhawks two games. She scored 13 of her 17 points in the first half of Stonehill's 80-75 setback to then No. 9/16 University of the Sciences on December 30, hitting 7-of-15 shots from the field, including 1-of-2 three-pointers, to go with three rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots. Raymond also tallied nine points, five boards, two assists, two steals and three blocks in the Skyhawks 73-60 win over Molloy College on December 29.

Raymond has started nine of her ten games played over the first 13 games of the season for Stonehill and leads the team with 16.7 points per game (7th NE10), shooting 51.1-percent from the field (13th), including 48.6% (17-for-35) from three-point distance (3rd), and converting 84.2% (16-19) of her free-throws. She also contributes 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.2 blocked shots (3rd) and 1.1 steals in 23.4 minutes per game.

Stonehill is 5-1 this season when Raymond is its top scorer, scoring in double-figures in eight of her ten games played, leading the Skyhawks in rebounding four times. She has produced 20-plus points four times, including a season-high 22 points in wins over Holy Family University on November 10 and Caldwell University on December 16. Raymond previously earned NE10 Rookie of the Week honors on November 12 and 26, and December 3 and 20.

Stonehill, ranked No. 4 in this week's D2SIDA East Region rankings and receiving votes in the most recent Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll, is back in action on Wednesday, when it visits American International College for an NE10 matchup at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks next home game is Wednesday, January 16, when they host The College of Saint Rose at Merkert Gym at 5:30 p.m.
