Now in her 24th year at Stonehill, Karen Boen has brought the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs to national prominence with a resume unrivaled in the Northeast-10 Conference.

In Boen’s 24 years leading the Stonehill track and field programs, the Skyhawks have been represented annually at major regional and national meets including the New England Championships, the Penn Relays, and the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Boen has earned 12 Northeast-10 Indoor and Outdoor Coach of the Year awards, including NCAA Division II East Region Coach of the Year honors. Nearly every school record has been broken by Boen’s student-athletes during her tenure, and she has coached multiple All-American, All-New England, and All-Conference honorees.

From 2014-20, the women have swept the title seven years in a row during the indoor season, while also taking three of the four crowns in the outdoor season. The men captured its only championship during the 2013 indoor season, as they have earned the runner-up mark six times under Boen’s leadership. The outdoor season for the men have included five runner-up finishes.

In 2014, Boen led the men’s team to a program-best fifth place at the New England Championships in indoor, while earning its’ first-ever runner-up mark in 2013 during the outdoor season. On the women’s side, the squad has posted a program-best seventh place in 2016 in the indoor season, and an eighth-place finish during the outdoor season.

Boen has also been active in conference and national organizations while at Stonehill, including serving a four-year term as a member of the NCAA Division II Track & Field Committee. Stonehill also hosted the 2006 NCAA Division II National Championships. 

A 1979 graduate of Bridgewater State College with a degree in exercise physiology, Boen and her husband Carl reside in Stoughton and have three daughters, Courtney, Colleen, and Molly.
