Men's Track & Field Posts Two All-NE10 Performances on Day One of NE10 Outdoor Championships


Taxter finished second in the 1500-meter run to earn All-NE10 honors for the eighth time in his career

MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 3, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's track & field program turned in two All-Conference performances on day one of the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University, at Penmen Stadium today.

Senior All-American Lucas Taxter earned All-NE10 honors for the eighth time in his career and led three Stonehill runners in the top seven out of 14 runners overall in the 1500-meter run. He clocked in at a season-best 3:54.27, while freshman Nickolas McNamee finished sixth in a personal-best 4:00.02 and senior Matthew Shaw placed seventh in a personal-best 4:00.10.

Sophomore Jeff Pichie earned All-NE10 honors for the first time in his career with his third place finish out of 21 competitors in the 10,000-meter run in 32:17.46.

Stonehill compiled 19 points with its performances in those two events to sit in fifth place in the team standings. Southern Connecticut State University leads the way with 56 points, with American International College second with 30 and Merrimack College third with 29 points.

In addition to its two All-NE10 performers on Friday, Stonehill qualified ten runners for Saturday finals.

Senior Joe Connolly and junior Justin Ireland both won their qualifying heats for tomorrow's 100-meter dash final this afternoon. Connolly qualified second out of 27 entries overall in 10.87-seconds, while Ireland posted the third-quickest time of 11.00-seconds. Sophomore Desmond Bernal placed 15th in a personal-best 11.30-seconds.

Connolly and Ireland also qualified for tomorrow's 200-meter dash final. Connolly qualified fifth out of 27 entries overall in 22.01-seconds, while Ireland clocked in at 22.27-seconds – good for seventh-fastest in the prelims.

Sophomore Ethan Famiano qualified second for tomorrow's 110-meter high hurdles final in a personal-best 14.77-seconds. Junior Collin Kuchachik placed ninth in 15.53-seconds.

Senior All-American Stephen Vercollone leads three Stonehill runners who will compete in the 800-meter run final tomorrow, qualifying fourth out of 25 entries in 1:55.87, winning his qualifying heat. Sophomore Christopher Lanahan qualified seventh in 1:56.37, while freshman Evan Kennedy was eighth in a personal-best 1:56.41. Sophomore Jack Herndon placed 11th in a personal-best 1:59.01.

Freshman Jack Bowers qualified fifth out of 21 entries for tomorrow's final in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.87-seconds.

Junior Jeremy Breen will run in tomorrow's 400-meter dash final, finishing seventh out of 23 competitors with a personal-best time of 49.65-seconds. Freshman Anthony Magazzu placed 12th in 50.47-seconds.

Freshman Robert Lisi placed ninth out of 20 entries in the hammer throw final with a distance of 133-feet, 10-inches on his opening throw.

The NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University, conclude tomorrow at Penmen Stadium, with multi-events starting at 9 a.m., followed by field events commencing at 10 a.m., before the track events begin at 12:30 p.m.
