EASTON, Mass. (April 4, 2019) – Two members of the Stonehill College men's track & field program have earned weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference for their efforts in its outdoor opener at the University of Massachusetts Lowell Invitational on Saturday.
Senior thrower Xavier Young has been named the NE10 Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this year (third career), while freshman Jack Bowers has earned NE10 Track Rookie of the Week honors for the first time.
Young earned two of Stonehill's seven top five performances as the lone non-Division I program competing at the UMass Lowell Invitational. He placed second out of 14 throwers in the shot put with a New England Championships qualifying and personal-best distance of 51-feet, 1.75-inches. He also took third out of 12 entries in the discus throw with a personal-best distance of 138-feet, 3-inches. Young's shot put distance ranks first in the NE10 so far this spring, while his discus effort ranks fourth in the Conference. It marks the first time Young has earned Field Athlete of the Week honors for outdoor track & field, but the third overall to go with a pair of indoor honors, including on February 12.

He broke his own indoor school record with a throw of 50-01.75 at the URI Coaches' Tribute Meet on February 9.
Young earned NE10 Field Rookie of the Year honors for the indoor season as a junior. In addition to one NE10 Field Athlete of the Week award, Young was named the NE10 Field Rookie of the Week once during the indoor season and twice outdoors. Young is a two-sport student-athlete at Stonehill, having just completed a standout four-year career for the Skyhawks football program. He played 41 games on the defensive line over his career, finishing with 56 tackles, including 16 solo, with 2.5 tackles for a loss of 13 yards, 1.0 sacks, two fumble recoveries and a blocked kick. Young posted 14 tackles (two solo), including two fumble recoveries and the blocked kick in nine games this past fall.
Bowers earned All-NE10 honors as a member of the Stonehill 4000-meter distance medley relay during the indoor track season, helping the relay to a third place finish at the NE10 Indoor Championships in 10:12.02. He also finished fourth at the NE10 Championships with the 4x400-meter relay (3:23.86).
