Innamorati leads Skyhawks by winning program's first pole vault title
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 1, 2015) – The Stonehill College men's track and field program, ranked fifth in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional rankings, sits in third place in the team standings after day one of the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, at Jess Dow Field today.
Stonehill collected 43 points on the first day of the championship and is 20 points behind team leaders Southern Connecticut State University. American International College is second with 52 points, while Franklin Pierce University rounds out the top five with 35.50 points. The Skyhawks earned one event win on Friday and five other top five finishes.
Freshman Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton) posted Stonehill's first-ever NE-10 championship in the pole vault by clearing a height of 14-feet, 1.25-inches. Classmate Dillon Neumann (Harwinton, Connecticut/Lewis Mills) placed fourth with a height of 13-05.25.
Senior All-American Daniel Zawalich (Paxton, Massachusetts/St. John's of Shrewsbury) led five Stonehill runners in the 1500-meter run, including two which scored points, with his fourth place finish in 3:52.46 – just 0.44 shy of the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division II Championships. Junior All-American Nick Kirkpatrick (Carmel, Indiana/Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) finished seventh in 3:53.82, while classmate Robert Massey (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) placed 14th in the field of 37 runners with a time of 4:04.59.
Zawalich and Kirkpatrick also ran as part of Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay finished second in 7:37.32, being shaded at the finish line by champion Franklin Pierce University (7:37.20) by a mere 0.12-seconds. Senior All-American Patrick Cooney (Douglaston, New York/Archbishop Molloy) ran the lead leg in 1:54.31, and then sophomore Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) posted a 1:55.68 split, with Zawalich running the third leg in 1:54.39 and then Kirkpatrick completing the anchor leg in 1:52.96.
Sophomore Joe Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) finished fourth out of 21 entries in the 10,000-meter run with his time of 31:41.08. Classmate Tyler Henseler (Coventry, Rhode Island/Bishop Hendricken) placed just out of the points in ninth with a time of 33:15.93.

Junior Morgan Johnson (West Newbury, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) also turned in a fourth place finish with his distance of 148-feet, 5-inches in the hammer throw. He led four Skyhawks in the field of 17 throwers as freshman Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) placed seventh with a throw of 140-feet and junior Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) finished eighth at 139-feet. Senior Daniel Cormier (Methuen, Massachusetts/Methuen) rounded out the Skyhawks with a ninth place effort at 129-09.
Freshman Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) is in fourth place after the first five events of the decathlon with 1,793 points to trail leader John Braga of Merrimack by less than 300 points. He ranked third among the 11 decathletes competing on Friday in the high jump by clearing a height of 5-feet, 10.75-inches. Hamalian was also fourth for the long jump (20-feet, 10-inches) and shot put (30-01.75) to go with a fifth place effort and fifth in the 400-meter run (54.35-seconds). Classmate Michael Skinner (Verona, New Jersey) sits in eighth place with 1,480 points.

Freshman Jon Rockwood (Walpole, Massachusetts/Walpole) finished ninth, just outside the points, in the javelin throw with a distance of 158-feet, 1-inch.
Senior All-American Teague Grubel (Phoenix, Arizona/Shadow Mountain) placed 12th in the 200-meter dash prelims in 22.53-seconds. Freshman Josh Hubbell (Gloucester, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) was 19th in 23.13.
Hubbell was also 20th in the long jump with a distance of 20-feet, 0.50-inches, while freshman Jon Naval (Stratford, Connecticut/Bunnell) was 21st at 19-10.75.
Freshman Daniel Stone (Potsdam, New York/Potsdam) placed 25th in the 100-meter dash prelims with a time of 11.73-seconds.
The Northeast-10 Outdoor Championships conclude on Saturday with multi-events resuming at 9 a.m., field events getting started at 10:15 and then track events at 12:30 p.m.
