Stonehill Fourth at Holy Cross Invitational

Skyhawks post five event wins at Division I meet 

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 19, 2015) – Stonehill College posted five event wins and 14 top-five performances in turning in a fourth place team finish as the only non-division I program competing at the Holy Cross Invitational at Hart Track on Saturday.

Stonehill compiled 124.25 points at the meet for its fourth place finish out of seven programs, six of which compete at the NCAA Division I level. University of Maine won the team title with 175.50 points, while host College of the Holy Cross was second (146 points) and the University of Massachusetts was third (127).

Senior All-American Teague Grubel (Phoenix, Arizona/Shadow Mountain) won the 200-meter dash in 22.84-seconds, leading a field of 20 sprinters. Freshman Joshua Hubbell (Gloucester, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) placed eighth in 23.39-seconds, while classmate Patrick Ahern (Charlotte, North Carolina/Providence Day School) was 11th in 23.57 and freshman Daniel Stone (Potsdam, New York/Potsdam) finished 15th in 24.00.

Hubbell won the long jump with a distance of 21-feet, 4.25-inches, while classmate Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) was second with a leap of 21-02.75. Freshman Jon Naval (Stratford, Connecticut/Bunnell) placed sixth at 20-03.00.

Grubel also finished third out of 23 entries in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.00-seconds. Hamalian also finished sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.22-seconds, was seventh in the high jump with a height of 5-feet, 10.75-inches and 11th in the shot put at 32-feet, 9-inches. Naval added a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 40-feet, 11.75-inches. Freshman Jason Lambrou (Cumberland, Rhode Island/Cumberland) placed eighth at 39-06.50.

Senior All-American Nick Staley (Medway, Massachusetts/BC High) won the high jump on attempts by clearing 6-feet, 6.75-inches. Freshman Jordan Sullivan (Sound Beach, New York/Miller Place) placed sixth with a height of 5-10.75.

Junior Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) added a first place finish in the shot put with a distance of 48-feet, 0.50-inches. Sophomore Carmen Cilfone (Falmouth, Massachusetts/Falmouth) placed seventh with a throw of 40-08.25, while freshman John Irving (Wareham, Massachusetts/Wareham) was eighth at 40-06.75.

Freshman Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) won the hammer throw with a distance of 164-feet, 6-inches. Griffin placed fourth with a throw of 146-07 and senior Daniel Cormier (Methuen, Massachusetts/Methuen) was ninth at 121-10.

Balestra was also fourth in the discus throw with a distance of 119-feet, 1-inch, while Cilfone was fifth at 115-01.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team finished third with a time of 3:21.25, while the 4x100 placed fifth in 45.21-seconds. 

Other Stonehill Results of Note: 

Senior Robert Smith (Woburn, Massachusetts/Woburn Memorial) and sophomore All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, out of 14 entries in the 400-meter dash. Smith took fourth in 50.76-seconds, while Baldasare was fifth in 51.07. 

Freshman Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) placed fifth out of ten runners in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.33-seconds. 


Hubbell

Freshman Jon Rockwood (Walpole, Massachusetts/Walpole) took sixth in the javelin throw with a distance of 153-feet, 11-inches. 

Freshman Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton) placed eighth out of 18 entries in the pole vault by clearing 13-feet, 00.25-inches. 

Junior Robert Massey (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) placed ninth out of 31 competitors in the 800-meter run in 1:58.79. Freshman Alex Southiere (Cumberland, Rhode Island/Cumberland) finished 20th in 2:01.44, while classmate James Murphy (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) took 22nd in 2:03.52. 

Sophomore Tyler Henseler (Coventry, Rhode Island/Bishop Hendricken) finished tenth out of 24 runners in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:08.09. 

Senior Michael Gendron (Lowell, Massachusetts/Lowell) finished 14th in the 5000-meter run in 16:07.99. 

Stonehill is back in action on Friday when it hosts its Skyhawk Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
