Kirkpatrick posts lone individual NE-10 Championship performance in 1000m
Zawalich earns three All-Northeast-10 performances
BOSTON, Mass. (February 21, 2015) – Stonehill College, ranked third in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional rankings, posted five All-Conference performances in posting a third place team finish at the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center tonight.
Stonehill compiled 115.50 points for its third place team finish, marking the first time in five years the Skyhawks have finished outside the top two. American International College won its first NE-10 team championship with 149.50 points, followed by runners-up Southern Connecticut State University with 140 points. Franklin Pierce University finished fourth (84 points) and Adelphi University rounded out the top five (81).
Junior All-American Nick Kirkpatrick (Carmel, Indiana/Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) and senior All-American Daniel Zawalich (Paxton, Massachusetts/St. John's of Shrewsbury) swept the All-Northeast-10 awards in the 1000-meter run by sweeping the top two spots. Kirkpatrick won his first NE-10 indoor championship with his first place finish in 2:28.32, marking the second straight year he has earned All-Conference honors in the event after his second place effort in 2014. Zawalich was right on Kirkpatrick's heels with his time of 2:29.18 to finish second. Senior All-American Patrick Cooney (Douglaston, New York/Archbishop Molloy) placed seventh in 2:32.29, while freshman James Murphy (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) took 16th in 2:38.83.
Zawalich earned his first two indoor All-Conference performances of his career tonight, adding a second place finish in the one mile run in 4:14.05, getting edged out by American International College's Conor Cashin (4:13.49) by just over a half second.
Zawalich added a third All-Conference award, while Kirkpatrick picked up a second, as part of Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay that finished second to Franklin Pierce University (7:47.23) by just over a second with its time of 7:48.41. Freshman Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) ran the lead leg, followed by sophomore Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) and then Zawalich ran the third leg before Kirkpatrick took the baton for the anchor leg.

Kirkpatrick also anchored Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team which finished third in 10:16.57. Junior Robert Massey (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) ran the opening 1200-meter leg, followed by freshman Patrick Ahern (Charlotte, North Carolina/Providence Country Day) for the 400-meter leg and then sophomore Steven Bomba (Putnam Valley, New York/Iona Prep) for the 800-meter leg before Kirkpatrick competed the mile anchor leg.
Freshman Dillon Neumann (Harwinton, Connecticut/Lewis Mills) earned All-Conference honors in his first collegiate championship meet with his second place finish in the pole vault. He cleared 13-feet, 5.25-inches, along with event winner Chris Bohi of Franklin Pierce, but needed two attempts to clear the height to fall to second place. Classmate Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton) placed fifth with a height of 12-11.50.
Senior Daniel Cormier (Methuen, Massachusetts/Methuen) placed third in the weight throw for the second straight year, clearing a distance of 50-feet, 10.75-inches. Freshman Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) finished fifth with a distance of 49-01.00, while junior Morgan Johnson (West Newbury, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) was sixth with a throw of 48-06.25.
Freshman Ruddy Severino (Methuen, Massachusetts/Methuen) finished third in the 500-meter run with his time of 1:06.95, just missing out on All-Conference honors in his first collegiate championship meet. Classmate Brendan Polichronopoulos (Penacook, New Hampshire/Merrimack Valley) finished 16th (1:09.90) and Bomba placed 17th (1:10.50).
Sophomore All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) and senior Teague Grubel (Phoenix, Arizona/Shadow Mountain) ran fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Baldasare finished in 50.84-seconds, while Grubel posted a time of 50.91-seconds as the top seven places were separated by less than a second.
Grubel was also ninth in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.66-seconds. Senior Robert Smith (Woburn, Massachusetts/Woburn Memorial) placed 14th in the event in 23-seconds flat.
Severino, Baldasare and Grubel were also part of Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team that finished fourth in 3:25.18. Severino ran the opening leg before handing the baton to senior All-American Nick Staley (Medway, Massachusetts/BC High) for the second leg, with Baldasare running the third leg and then Grubel finishing the relay off with the anchor leg.

Staley also placed fifth in the high jump by clearing a height of 6-feet, 2.25-inches. Freshman Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) was ninth and classmate Jordan Sullivan (Sound Beach, New York/Miller Place) tenth as both cleared 6-00.50, but Hamalian had fewer misses over his progressions.
Senior Bryan Wilcox (Plantsville, Connecticut/Southington) led four scoring runners in the 5000-meter run with his fourth place finish in 14:58.28. Sophomore Joe Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) finished sixth in 15:07.71, with senior Daniel Gordon (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) in seventh with a time of 15:26.17 and classmate Seamus McEvoy (Longmeadow, Massachusetts/Longmeadow) eighth in 15:30.44.
Stonehill placed three runners in the top eight scoring positions and seven in the top 16 overall in the 3000-meter run. Sophomore Tyler Henseler (Coventry, Rhode Island/Bishop Hendricken) finished fifth in 8:47.60, with classmate Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) right behind in sixth at 8:49.95. Freshman Dillon McGee (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) rounded out the Skyhawks scoring in the event with his eighth place finish in 8:50.57.
Freshman Josh Hubbell (Gloucester, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) earned two points for Stonehill with his seventh place finish in the long jump with a distance of 21-feet, 11-inches. Hamalian placed ninth at 21-10.00 for the Skyhawks.
Sophomore Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) finished seventh for two points in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.02.
Sophomore Carmen Cilfone (Falmouth, Massachusetts/Falmouth) placed seventh in the shot put to earn two points for the Skyhawks with his distance of 44-feet, 5.50-seconds. Freshman John Irving (Wareham, Massachusetts/Wareham) finished eighth with a throw of 42-11.25.
Freshman Jon Naval (Stratford, Connecticut/Bunnell) placed eighth in the triple jump to collect a point for Stonehill with his distance of 43-feet, 4.25-inches. He was also 16th in the long jump with a leap of 20-11.75.
Stonehill is back in action next weekend for the New England Indoor Championships, hosted by Boston University, at the BU Track & Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.
