Zawalich posts top ten finish, while Griffin and Cormier lead throwers
BOSTON, Mass. (January 31, 2015) – The Stonehill College men's track & field program, ranked fourth in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional rankings, took center stage on day two of the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, at the BU Track & Tennis Center today.
Senior All-American Daniel Zawalich (Paxton, Massachusetts/St. John's of Shrewsbury) finished tenth out of 70 entries in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:26.92 to win his section and place seventh among collegiate runners in the event and second among non-Division I runners.
Junior Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) placed 18th out of 55 entries in the shot put with a distance of 47-feet, 3.75-inches. Senior Daniel Cormier (Methuen, Massachusetts/Methuen) finished 26th with a throw of 44-11.50.
Junior Morgan Johnson (West Newbury, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) and Cormier placed 18th and 19th, respectively in the weight throw. Johnson posted a distance of 50-feet, 3.25-inches, while Cormier was right behind him at 49-02.50.

Senior Bryan Wilcox (Plantsville, Connecticut/Southington) finished 30th out of 88 runners in the 5000-meter run with his time of 14:54.54. Sophomore Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) placed 43rd out of 139 entries in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.79, while freshman Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) finished 59th in 1:57.48. Junior All-American Nick Kirkpatrick (Carmel, Indiana/Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) placed 57th out of 198 entries in the one mile run with his time of 4:17.18
Senior Teague Grubel (Phoenix, Arizona/Shadow Mountain) and sophomore All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) finished back to back in 64th and 65th place out of 148 entries in the 200-meter dash. Grubel finished in 22.58-seconds, with Baldasare was right on his heels in 22.59. Grubel also finished 43rd in the 400-meter dash in 49.73-seconds, while Baldasare finished 52nd out of 151 entries with a time of 49.96.
Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team made its 2014-15 debut on Friday night and finished second in 9:52.38 – just a second behind Northeast-10 Conference rival American International College, which won the relay in 9:51.38. Both teams met the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships to be held at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Alabama, in March. Kirkpatrick (1200-meter leg), Baldasare (400m), Dimmick (800m) and Zawalich (mile) all ran legs for the Skyhawks in the relay.
Stonehill is back in action next Saturday when it participates on the Coaches' Tribute meet, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, at 11 a.m.
