BOSTON, Mass. (January 30, 2015) – Stonehill College's men's 4000-meter distance medley relay team made its 2014-15 debut to cap day one of the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, and provisionally qualified for the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the BU Track & Tennis Center tonight.

Stonehill, which earned All-America honors for the event at last year's NCAA Championships, debuted its relay team with a second place finish on Friday night in 9:52.38 – just a second behind Northeast-10 Conference rival American International College, which won the relay in 9:51.38. Both teams met the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships to be held at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Alabama, in March.

Junior All-American Nick Kirkpatrick (Carmel, Indiana/Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) ran the opening 1200-meter leg for Stonehill in 3:00.9 before handing the baton to sophomore All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) who completed the 400-meter leg in 48.9-seconds. Freshman Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) followed with a time of 1:56.1 in the 800-meter leg before senior All-American Daniel Zawalich (Paxton, Massachusetts/St. John's of Shrewsbury) completed the mile anchor leg in 4:06.3.

Kirkpatrick, Baldasare and Zawalich are all returning members of last year's DMR, while Zawalich is a two-time All-American in the event. Baldasare's 400-meter split was near NCAA provisional qualifying pace, while Zawalich's unofficial mile time was over six seconds under the provisional qualifying standard. Stonehill finished ahead of third place Boston College (9:57.41) and fourth place Rider University (10:09.69) on Friday night.

The Stonehill men's track and field program will be right back at Boston University on Saturday for day two of the John Thomas Terrier Invitational at 9 a.m.
