Stonehill Men’s 4x800 Relay Named NE-10 Relay of the Week

Skyhawks relay placed second at Saturday's URI Sorlien Invitational 

EASTON, Mass. (January 21, 2014) – The Stonehill College men's 4x800-meter relay team has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Relay of the Week for men's track and field the league office has announced.

Stonehill's 4x800 relay team placed second at the Sorlien Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, on Saturday with a time of 8:07.20. Junior All-American Patrick Cooney (Douglaston, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) ran the lead leg for the Skyhawks in 2:01.3, followed by senior Christopher Dooley (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) with a 2:05.3 split and senior All-American Justin Blaszczyk (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown) with a time of 2:00.7 on the third leg before sophomore Nick Kirkpatrick (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) ran the anchor leg in 2:01.2.

Blaszczyk, an All-American with Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team in 2012, is part of an NE-10 Relay of the Week team for the second time in his career after earning the honors as part of Stonehill's 4x800 last season. He also ran seventh on Saturday in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.9. Cooney was also a member of the 2012 distance medley relay that earned All-America honors with a sixth place finish and collects relay of the week honors for the first time. He also led three Stonehill runners in the 1000-meter run with a fourth place finish in 2:34.22. Dooley earned All-New England and All-Northeast-10 honors as part of the Skyhawks 4x800 team in 2012 and is part of his first Relay of the Week team. He also finished 11th in the 1000-meters in 2:40.71 on Saturday. Kirkpatrick earns NE-10 Relay of the Week honors for the second time as well and is an All-New England performer for outdoor with the 4x800. He led four Skyhawks in the 800-meter run as well on Saturday with his second place finish in 1:57.12.

Stonehill is back in action this weekend when it will split its squad between the Joe Donahue Collegiate Games, hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, on Friday as well as the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center, on Saturday at 9 a.m.
