Thomas Notches Second All-America Award at NCAA Championships

Brookline, Mass., native finishes eighth in 60-meter hurdles final after placing third in Friday's high jump

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 9, 2013) – Stonehill College senior Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) posted his second All-America performance of the weekend with an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter high hurdles on the final day of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships as part of the Division II Championships Festival at the CrossPlex Complex this afternoon.

Thomas, who also earned All-America honors for the 60-meter hurdles with a fifth place finish in 2011, finished eighth today with a time of 8.09-seconds. Thomas had qualified sixth for today's final with a time of 7.99-seconds to win his preliminary heat on Friday afternoon. It marked his fastest time in the event at the NCAA Championships. Saint Augustine's University junior Moussa Dembele won today's final in 7.84-seconds.

On Friday, Thomas and sophomore Nick Staley (Medway, Mass./BC High) both claimed All-America honors in the high jump, marking the first time in Stonehill history two student-athletes have earned the honors in the same event at the same championship. Thomas, the 2011 national champion, placed third for the second-straight year as he cleared 6-feet, 11.75-inches. Staley earned the first All-America honor of his career as he tied for fifth with a height of 6-feet, 10.75-inches.

Stonehill, ranked 13th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Championship rankings, placed 19th in the team standings with 10.50 points. The Skyhawks are second among the six Northeast-10 Conference programs that earned points at the Championships. Saint Augustine's won the team title with 72 points, with American International College the top NE-10 program with 12 points for 18th place.
