DMR places eighth, Thomas and Dixon advance to Saturday in 60-meter hurdles
BOSTON, Mass. (February 22, 2013) – The Northeast-10 Conference Champion Stonehill College men's track & field program, ranked 20th in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Championship rankings, turned in some solid results on day one of the 2013 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Boston University, at the BU Track & Tennis Center this evening.
Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team collected All-New England honors to highlight the day one performances with an eighth place finish and slightly improved its NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying time by completing the relay in 9:57.39 – tops among Division II entries in the event. Running for the Skyhawks were senior Tim Johnson (Thomaston, Conn./Thomaston) with a 3:03.8 split on the opening 1200-meter leg, followed by classmate Sam Spencer (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) who ran the 400-meter leg in 50.3-seconds, before senior All-American Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep) completed the 800-meter leg in 1:54.4 and then sophomore All-American Dan Zawalich (Paxton, Mass./St. John's of Shrewsbury) ran the 1600-meter anchor leg in 4:08.6.
It marks the second-straight All-New England performance in this event for Hanlon and Zawalich, while Hanlon has earned All-New England honors three times now over his career, with Johnson earning All-New England honors in the 4x800-meter relay last year.
Senior All-American Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) and junior Xavier Dixon (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) both qualified for Saturday's semifinal heats in the 60-meter hurdles. Thomas qualified fourth in the field of 28 with his heat-winning time of 8.09-seconds, while Dixon qualified tenth out of 16 who will compete in tomorrow's semifinals in 8.23-seconds.

Junior Tyler Moules (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) missed qualifying for tomorrow's 500-meter run finals by just a tenth of a second with a ninth place finish in today's preliminaries in the field of 30 competitors with a time of 1:05.28.
Sophomore All-American Patrick Cooney (Douglaston, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) missed the 800-meter run final with a 16th place finish in 1:53.89, but provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships next month in Birmingham, Ala.
Other Stonehill Highlights Include:
Sophomore Teague Grubel (Phoenix, Ariz./Shadow Mountain) competed in both the 60 and 200-meter dashes and did not qualify for tomorrow's rounds. He placed 18th in the 60-meter dash out of 29 entries with a time of 7.15-seconds, and then placed 19th in the 200-meter dash in 22.395-seconds, finishing second in his preliminary heat.
Junior Trent Fontanella (Pelham, N.H./Bishop Guertin) led three Stonehill runners in the 5000-meter run with a 20th place finish in 15:07.69. Senior Ethan Penney (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) placed 23rd in 15:13.33, while junior Stephen Leonard (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finished 27th in 15:29.94.
The New England Championships continue with day two tomorrow at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center beginning with Thomas and sophomore Nick Staley (Medway, Mass./BC High) in the high jump at 10:30 a.m.
