EASTON, Mass. (March 7, 2012) – Junior All-American Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Region Co-Field Athlete of the Year and headlines a school-record 15 All-East Region honorees for their performances during the 2011-12 indoor season. The awards recognize each region's top five performers in individual events and top three teams in relay events.

It marks the third-straight year Thomas has earned East Region Field Athlete of the Year for the indoor season, to go with an outdoor award in 2010, sharing the honors this winter with University of New Haven sophomore Matthew Jeune. Stonehill's 15 All-East Region performers nearly double last year's list of eight honorees named to the USTFCCCA's inaugural All-Region squad.

Thomas and freshman Daniel Zawalich (Paxton, Mass./St. John's) both have earned All-East Region honors in two events for their efforts over the winters. Also collecting All-Region plaudits are Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team consisting of Zawalich, junior All-American Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep), sophomore Justin Blaszczyk (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown) and freshman Patrick Cooney (Douglaston, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) as well as seniors Daniel Kincade (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) and Stephen Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial), juniors Luke Byrnes (Glen Head, N.Y./Chaminade) and Kevin McCann (Monroe, Conn./Masuk), sophomores George Georgaklis (Westwood, Mass./Westwood), Xavier Harris-Dixon (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford), Ryan Perkins (Shrewsbury, Conn./St. John's) and Herby Saintil (Roslindale, Mass./BC High) as well as freshmen Nicholas Capezzuto (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) and Nicholas Staley (Medway, Mass./BC High).

He captured his second indoor high jump New England Championship by clearing a program-record matching 7-feet, 2.25-inches, marking the second-highest leap in the East Region and fifth highest overall in Division II this winter. He also earned a runner up finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship (7-0.25) to go with event wins the University Tri-Meet (6-10.75), Charley Torpey Memorial Invitational (7-0.25) and a second place showing at the Boston University Valentine Invitational (6-10.25).
