Pilz, Morse, Hanlon and Fullerton combine to post fourth-fastest time in Division II this season

Stonehill placed fourth out of 21 teams in the 4000-meter distance medley relay with a school-record time of 9:53.45 – 0.02 faster than the previous school record of 9:53.47. Amherst College won the event in 9:49.11, followed by Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State University (9:51.51), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (9:52.13) and the Skyhawks.

Running this afternoon for Stonehill were seniors Daniel Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington), with a 3:03.5 split in the opening 1200-meter leg, Nathan Morse (Whitinsville, Mass./Holy Name), with a split of 48.20 in the 400-meter leg, and Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill), with a 4:08.12 split in the mile anchor leg, while sophomore Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep) turned in a time of 1:53.50 in the 800-meter third leg. The time was good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., in March and is the fourth-fastest time in the country so far this season, with Southern Connecticut State notching the second-fastest time in the country today.

The Stonehill group broke the previous school record set by David Metzger, Brandon Beloin, Richard Gerry and Keith Gill at this same meet in 2007. Morse's split in the 400-meter leg would be good enough for the school record in that event (48.95) under official timing standards.

This afternoon's DMR was the lone men's event on day one of the BU Valentine's Invitational, with the remaining events to be conducted tomorrow at the Track and Tennis Center starting at 11 a.m.
