Monroe, Conn., native collects first weekly award after winning performance

McCann earns the weekly award for the first time after helping Stonehill to a second place finish at Saturday's University of New Hampshire Tri-Meet by placing first in the pole vault when he cleared 14-feet, 2-inches in a field of eight competitors. He cleared each of the first two heights (4.02 and 4.17 meters) on his first attempts, before clearing the winning height on his second attempt.

McCann is in the midst of a strong indoor season for Stonehill. He has broken the school record twice so far, starting with a sixth place finish at the season-opening Jay Carisella Invitational on December 6, when he cleared 13-feet, 11.25-inches. McCann followed that up by clearing 14-feet, 5.25-inches the next weekend at the Harvard Open to place fifth. The record height is just 0.40-meters shy of the NCAA Division II Championships provisional qualifying standard.

McCann placed third at the Northeast-10 Indoor Championships as a freshman with a then school-record vault of 13'-5.25". He was also second at the Tufts Stampede with a height of 13'-3.5" and third at the Wheaton Invitational (12'-06"). During the outdoor season as a freshman, McCann placed third at the NE-10 Outdoor Championships with a height of 13'-5.25". He won the event at the Bryant Invitational by clearing a program-record height of 13-feet, 6.00-inches. McCann was also first at the Skyhawks Invitational with a height of 13'5.25" to go with a first place finish at the Holy Cross Crusades (13'-00") and first among collegiate entries at the George Davis Invitational (13'-5").
