Hartman swings 3-for-3 at the plate

WALTHAM, Massachusetts (April 11, 2019) – The Stonehill College softball team won the third game of the series against Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley University, 2-1, Thursday afternoon in Waltham, Massachusetts.
With the win, Stonehill is now 8-18 overall and 5-10 in NE10 play, while Bentley falls to 11-19 overall and 7-8 in Conference play.
Junior pitcher Katherine Rayner threw her 11th complete game of her career striking out six, allowing seven hits, and two walks with one earned run. Sophomore Genna Hartman went 3-for-3 at the plate with one run scored, as junior Julia Hartman and sophomore Hannah Ricker went 2-for-3.
Stonehill kicked off the game with Julia Hartman singled to right field with two outs, but the side was retired and Bentley put a runner on base as well from a fielding error in the bottom of the first. The Falcons bunted to move the runner over for the first out and Rayner struck out the next two to end the inning.
In the bottom of the second with two outs and a runner on first, Bentley saw back-to-back singles, as Allen's base hit drove in the first run of the game for a 1-0 lead. Rayner once again got out of a jam leaving two Falcons on base with a ground out to shortstop.

The Skyhawks saw their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth as Genna Hartman singled and advanced to second on a fielding error moving Sophie Perez to third for Gianna Azzato. Perez scored easily on Azzato's fielder's choice and was safe at first leaving runners on first and third. Azzato then stole third in attempts to get runners in scoring position and the pitcher over threw the ball so Genna Hartman could score from third for a 2-1 advantage. The Falcons finally got out of the inning with back-to-back grounders.
Rayner retired eight-straight to end the game, as the Falcons allowed three more hits from the Skyhawks but stranded just as many holding on to a 2-1 victory for the junior's eighth win of the season.
Stonehill hosts Saint Michael's College for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 with a start time of noon to kick off a six-game home stand on Fr. Gartland Field.
