Softball Falls in 2-0 Decision to Southern N.H.

HOOKSETT, N.H. (April 2, 2018) – The Stonehill College softball team wrapped up its three game series with Southern New Hampshire University with a 2-0 loss Monday afternoon at SNHU Softball Field in Northeast-10 Conference play.    

For the Skyhawks, Carly Rennie (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) went 2-for-3 with her third double of the season, while Michelle Theilgard (North Branford, Connecticut/Mercy) and Sophie Perez (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) tallied the other two hits in the game. Senior pitcher Jennifer Mayette (Scotia, New York/Scotia-Glenville) threw 7.0 innings and gave up two runs off seven hits allowing three walks.

The Penmen got on board early with three hits, scoring two, and leaving one on base for a 2-0 lead. Jordan Wade led off the game with a single to right field, and with two outs, Erin Garczynski also singled advancing Brittany Perdigao to third to get in scoring position. Sarah Lavallee then doubled to right field bringing in Garczynski and Perdigao, 2-0.

Stonehill saw its first hit of the game in the bottom of the frame, but Southern N.H. recorded two strikeouts and a fly out to hold the Skyhawks.

Southern N.H. tallied two more hits in the top of the third, but Mayette held the offensive attack by stranding three on base and getting Emily Critch to pop out for the last out. The Skyhawks were able to string two hits together in the bottom of the fourth inning, as the Penmen held the two runners on base leaving Stonehill still scoreless, 2-0.

In the final three innings, both teams recorded a hit a piece, but neither team saw a run cross home plate as Stonehill took a 2-1 record at the end of the series.

Stonehill (4-13, 3-4 NE10) is scheduled to travel to North Andover, Massachusetts to face Merrimack College for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 4 on Martone-Mejail Field with a start time of 3:00 p.m.
