Stonehill tallied 13 hits in two games
MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 29, 2017) – The Stonehill College softball team fell twice to Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Anselm College on Saturday, April 29 in two shutout doubleheaders, 3-0 and 2-0, to conclude softball's season.
Game 1: Saint Anselm 3 – Stonehill 0

Stonehill saw Michelle Carbone (Deer Park, New York/St. Anthony's) double to left center for the first hit of the game with two outs, but the Hawks got out of the inning with a foul out. Saint Anselm also saw their first hit of the game in the bottom of the frame, as Amanda Bickford singled to the shortstop but was left on second as Jennifer Mayette (Scotia, New York/Scotia-Glenville) retired the side.
The Hawks jumped on board in the bottom of the second with two outs, seeing Madison Borrelli single to right field, bringing home Erin Thompson from third for a 1-0 lead.
The bottom of the fifth saw Saint Anselm extend its lead to two, 2-0, as Megan Murrell singled to centerfield with two outs. Maggie Murphy scored on the hit, and Murrell tried to pick up the extra base hit, but was tagged out on a relay from centerfield.
Saint Anselm picked up its third run of the game with no outs as Thompson started off the bottom of the sixth with a single to shortstop and reaching second on a throwing error. Shannon Colson got runners on first and third after singling to the pitcher. She stole second to put herself and Thompson in scoring position for Shannon McLaughlin to groundout to shortstop, but Thompson scored on contact and Mayette retired the side leaving one Hawk on base with a 3-0 lead.
Game 2: Saint Anselm 2 – Stonehill 0
The Skyhawks tallied the first hit of the game once again in the top of the first, as Michelle Carbone singled to center field, but was left on base as the Hawks retire the side. Stonehill was able to get on base in the top of the second, as well, but left Erin Brayden (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) on second after a line out and a strike out.
Saint Anselm tallied its first hits of the game in the bottom of the fourth, as Michaela Kane tripled to right field for a leadoff blast. With two outs, Thompson singled to first base and Kane crossed home, putting the Hawks up 1-0.
Stonehill put pressure on Saint Anselm in the top of the fifth, as Carly Rennie (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) singled to center field and moved over on a sacrifice bunt. Katherine Rayner (Milton, Vermont/Milton) followed with a bunt for a hit to the pitcher while also advancing Rennie to scoring position on third. With two outs, Rayner advanced to second on a wild pitch, but Rennie remained on third, keeping the Hawks up, 1-0.
In the bottom of the frame, the Hawks drove in another run off of Bickford's single to left center, scoring Karoline Leavitt from second for a 2-0 advantage.
The Stonehill College softball team concluded the season finishing with an overall record of 11-30, while being 9-15 in the NE10. The Skyhawks finished ranking sixth in the Northeast division.
