EASTON, Mass. (April 15, 2017) – The Stonehill College softball team defeated Southern New Hampshire University in game one 2-1, while the Penmen took game two, 1-0, in eight innings on Penman Field in Northeast 10 Conference play on Saturday.
Game 1: Stonehill 2 – Southern N.H. 1
For the Skyhawks, Taylor Lester (East Northport, New York/St. Anthony's) batted 3-for-4 with a double and a stolen base, while Erin Brayden (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) went 2-for-3 with a double that scored two RBI. Jennifer Mayette (Scotia, New York/Scotia-Glenville) pitched a complete game for her fourth win of the season allowing five hits and striking out two.

Stonehill and Southern New Hampshire was able to tally three hits apiece in the first four innings, as Mayette and the Penmen's Nicole Gubellini held both teams to no runs on the mound.
Lester started off the top of the fifth with a single up the middle, as the Skyhawks got runners on first and second with Michelle Carbone (Deer Park, New York/St. Anthony's) was hit by a pitch. Lianna Jordan (Staten Island, New York/St. Joseph By the Sea) advanced both runners to scoring position and Brayden followed up with a double to left center with two outs, easily scoring Jordan and Carbone for a 2-0 lead.
The Penmen responded with a run in the bottom of the frame with two outs, as Katie Horluchi singled down the right field line to score Jordan Wade from third, cutting the deficit to one, 2-1.
The Skyhawks tallied the only hit in the final two innings of the game as Mayette closed the game four ground outs and one fly out.
Game 2: Southern N.H. 1 – Stonehill 0 (8 innings)
Maddy Barone pitched 8.0 scoreless innings for the Penmen, while Stonehill's Mayette threw 7.2 scoreless innings, until Southern New Hampshire put the first tally on the board.
The Skyhawk's five hits weren't enough in the eight-inning game, as the Penmen recorded seven hits.
Southern New Hampshire saw Brittany Perdigao single and advance to second on a throwing error with only one out in the bottom of the eighth. She continued to third on a groundout by Katie Horiuchi. Both Erin Garczynski and Sarah Lavallee were intentionally walked putting the bases loaded. On the second pitch of the at bat, Torsiello drove the ball to left field driving in Perdigao from third for her first hit of the game and the game-winning run.
Stonehill (8-22, 6-7 NE10) hosts Bentley University on Wednesday, April 19 in a doubleheader on Fr. Gartland Field with a first pitch slated for 3:00 p.m.
