Sumski Collects NE-10 Player of the Week Honor

Senior Alison Sumski leads Skyhawks with 9-for-12 effort, two homeruns and seven RBI

EASTON, Mass. (April 12, 2016) – Stonehill College senior Alison Sumski (Amherst, New Hampshire/Souhegan) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for softball, it was announced yesterday by the league office.

Sumski led Stonehill at the plate last week with a .750 batting average (9-for-12), to go with two doubles, two home runs, six runs and seven RBI. She also posted an on-base percentage of .750 with a 1.417 slugging percentage, while chipping in with a steal in a perfect 3-0 week for Stonehill.

Sumski and the Skyhawks started their week off hot, as the senior went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and three RBI in the doubleheader opener at Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon. In game two, Sumski went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Stonehill's 12-3 win over the Purple Knights, putting her at a near perfect 7-for-8 over the two game span.

She followed up that performance by going 2-for-4 with two homeruns, two runs, and four RBI in finishing the weekend series sweep over Saint Michael's.

Overall this season, Sumski ranks first on the team with five homeruns and is tied for the team lead with 20 RBI and seven doubles. She has also posted a .301 batting average (25-for-83) and has scored 15 runs.

Stonehill (16-11, 12-3 NE-10) has rattled off six wins in-a-row and will look to keep the momentum going as they travel to Merrimack tomorrow for a twinbill with the first contest starting at 3:00 p.m.
