Stonehill Drops Pair on Day Two

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 13, 2011) – Stonehill College dropped a pair of games on Sunday at the Rebel Spring Games. LIU-C.W. Post registered a 7-2 victory in game one, before the University of Wisconsin-Parkside posted an 8-0 win in six innings in game two.

C.W. Post scored four runs in the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie on its way to a 7-2 victory over Stonehill to start the day. The Pioneers scored four runs on five hits to chase Stonehill freshman starter Nicole Schneider (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) in the fourth, keyed by an RBI double by junior Kendall Bright (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), who later capped the scoring with a homer in the seventh.

Schneider took the loss for Stonehill, allowing six runs, five earned, on 11 hits with two strikeouts and no walks in three-plus innings. Junior Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) closed the game out and allowed an earned run on three hits with five strikeouts and no walks over the final four innings. Krantz stopped the Pioneers four-run fourth by striking out the side.

Senior Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I./The Prout School) led the Stonehill offense as she hit 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) was 2-for-3 with a walk and RBI, while junior Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.


Senior Katy Abarr was 2-for-3 with an RBI in game one.

Stonehill opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first as Stryker walked and later scored on a single by Eisenmann. C.W. Post answered right away with two in the second, but the Skyhawks knotted the score in the third when Stryker singled and scored on an Abarr base hit.

Wisconsin-Parkside 8, Stonehill 0 (6 innings)

Wisconsin-Parkside held Stonehill to just three hits and broke the game open with a five-run fifth.

Chelsea Stryker had two of Stonehill's three hits, finishing 2-for-3. Sophomore Kaitlin Miller (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) hit 1-for-2 for the Skyhawks.

Freshman Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) took the loss in the circle for Stonehill, allowing six runs, just three earned, on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks in 4.1 innings. Samantha Krantz pitched the final 1.2 innings and yielded two unearned runs on three hits with a strikeout and no walks.

Wisconsin-Parkside got on the scoreboard with a run in the second as Krista Kelly ( singled, was sacrificed to second and then scored on a double by Nicki Eckstrom. The Rangers broke the game open with five in the fifth, keyed by a two-run homer by Kyla Walczak.

Stonehill (1-3, 0-0 NE-10) has a day off on Monday before returning to action on Tuesday when it faces Caldwell College, among teams receiving votes nationally, at 9 a.m., followed by a matchup with the University of Indianapolis, ranked seventh in the NFCA Division II poll, at 11 a.m. The Skyhawks are scheduled to open their home schedule with a Northeast-10 doubleheader with Saint Michael's College on Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m.
