EASTON, Mass. (November 7, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's cross country freshman Reilly Johnston was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year, as announced by the league on Thursday.

Johnston is just the third male Skyhawk to earn NE10 Rookie of the Year. Kevin Gill earned the honor in 2007 and Khalid Abdi was named in 2004.

Johnston assisted the men's cross country team to a second-place finish, the program's ninth overall, after the freshman placed ninth out of 149 competitors at the Jamesville Beach State Park in late October, hosted by Le Moyne College. The Providence, Rhode Island native clocked in a time of 27:38.4 in the eight-kilometer race for his first-career NE10 All-Conference second team accolade.

The Providence, Rhode Island native competed in his first New England Championship in mid-October where he placed 64th in the varsity race clocking in a time of 26:10.5, assisting the Skyhawks to a eighth-place finish out of 25 teams.

Johnston crossed the finish line 50th out of 394 competitors clocking in a time of 25:22.9 in the eight-kilometer race.

Johnston opened the season at the Kutztown Division II/III Challenge, where the Skyhawks finished third out of 13 teams, and the freshman clocked in a time of 27:21.4 in the race placing 34th overall.

On Saturday, both the Stonehill women and men's cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Division II East Regional Cross Country Championships at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, hosted by Jefferson University. The women's six-kilometer race will kick off the championship at noon, followed by the men's 10-kilometer race which will begin at 1:15 p.m.
