Men’s Cross Country Races to Runner-Up Finish at NE10 Championship

Skyhawks take home ninth runner-up finish in program history


Taxter led the Skyhawks earning his fourth-career cross country NE10 All-Conference recognition 

JAMESVILLE, New York (October 27, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, who is ranked No. 3 in the East Regional U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) week five rankings, took home its ninth runner-up mark in program history Sunday afternoon at Jamesville Beach State Park, hosted by Le Moyne College.

American International College, who totaled 39 points, saw seven runners in the top 25, as they took home their fourth NE10 Championship in program history. Stonehill College combined for 79 points for second place, placing seven runners in the top 40, as Southern Connecticut State University and the Skyhawks were separated by six points, 85 points, and finishing third in the 14-team race. Franklin Pierce University totaled 89 points and Southern New Hampshire University combined for 96 points to round out the top five teams.

Senior All-American Lucas Taxter led the way for the Skyhawks as he earned his fourth cross country All-Conference recognition after finishing sixth out of 149 competitors. Taxter clocked in a time of 27:27.1, a minute and 24-seconds off from the individual winner from American International College, Ezra Mutai. The senior has now earned three first team honors and one second team honor in his cross country career.

In his first NE10 Championship appearance, freshman Reilly Johnston crossed the finish line ninth for his first-career All-Conference second team accolade in the eight-kilometer race. He clocked in a time of 27:38.4. Sophomore Shane Braz was the next Skyhawk across the finish line as he picked up his first career All-Conference third team recognition. He placed 16th overall with a time of 27:57.1.

Sophomore Nickolas McNamee concluded the All-Conference performances, with a 20th-place finish, good for third team and his second-career cross country honor. He clocked in a time of 28:07.6. Freshman Colin Black was the final Purple & White to earn the Skyhawks points with a 28th-place finish in his first appearance at a NE10 Championship, finishing with a time of 28:30.8.

Following today's NE10 Championship, the Skyhawks will be off for a week before aiming to win their 16th NCAA Division II East Region Championship. The race will take place at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, hosted by Jefferson University on Saturday, November 9.
