Men’s Cross Country Finishes Eighth at Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational

Taxter leads the way in season opening meet


Pichie was the second Skyhawk to cross the finish line, placing 40th in the field of 128 competitors

SMITHFIELD, Rhode Island (September 7, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, who is ranked No. 1 in the East Region and No. 18 in the National U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) preseason rankings, finished eighth as a team in the Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational, hosted by Bryant University, to open the season.

Northeastern University finished first among the 11 teams, while Boston College placed second and Quinnipiac University took home third.

Senior All American Lucas Taxter led the way for the Purple & White with a 36th-place finish out of 128 competitors finishing the eight-kilometer race in a time of 26:28.0.

Junior Jeff Pichie and sophomore Nickolas McNamee followed close behind, crossing the finish line in 40th and 41st place, respectively. Pichie clocked in a time of 26:36.2, while McNamee was one second behind with a time of 26:37.3.

Junior Chris McCaffrey took home 56th in the invitational with a time of 27:07.7, while freshman Colin Black ran in his first collegiate meet, finishing 74th and crossing the finish line in 27:31.4. Senior Chris Gendron rounded out the six runners for the Skyhawks with a time of 27:48.0 placing 81st.

Stonehill will travel to Kutztown, Pennsylvania to compete in the Kutztown Division II/III Challenge on Saturday, September 14.
