Taxter earns first cross country All-New England honor with third-place finish

BOSTON, Massachusetts (October 6, 2018) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, ranked No. 2 in the East Region and No. 24 in the nation in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Preseason Poll, finished fourth with 150 points at the New England Championships at Franklin Park on Saturday.
The University of Massachusetts Amherst took home the team title with 84 points, as Northeastern University was the runner up with 116 points. MIT followed in third place with 125 points, while the Skyhawks placed fourth out of the 26 teams and Northeast-10 Conference foe American International rounded out the top five with their 158 points.
Senior Lucas Taxter was the first Skyhawk to cross the finish line with a time of 25:00.2 in the eight-kilometer race taking home third place out of the 171 competitors. Taxter earned his first cross country All-New England honor, as he has tallied four track and field recognitions in his career.
Classmate Alexander Demeule also received his first cross country All-New England honor and fourth-career honor, where three have been from track & field. Demeule placed 14th in the varsity race with a time of 25:23.9.
Senior Riley Dowd was the next Skyhawk across the finish line, as he placed 40th, clocking in a time of 25:52.8. Freshman Nickolas McNamee competed in his first New England Championship, as he finished in 45th place with a time of 25:55.4, while sophomore Jeff Pichie ran in his second New England Championship crossing the finish line seven seconds behind McNamee with a time of 26:02.4, good for 48th.

Sophomore Kevin Wheelock clocked in a time of 26:14.4, good for 63rd, while Shane Braz rounded out the Skyhawks with a 97th place result completing the course in 26:47.9.
The men's sub varsity squad finished in seventh place out of 14 teams and totaling 188 points.

The Skyhawks will take a week off before competing at the 6th Annual Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup in Hopkinton, New Hampshire at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds, hosted by Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, October 20.
