Karen Boen

EASTON, Mass. (October 24, 2011) – Stonehill College men's and women's cross country head coach Karen Boen has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Coach of the Year for both sports by her peers, it was announced yesterday.

Boen, now in her 14th season at the helm of the women's team and 11th season piloting the men's squad, is the most decorated coach in NE-10 cross country history with 12 Coach of the Year awards to her credit. Boen has won nine Coach of the Year awards on the women's side and three as coach of the men's program.

Boen guided Stonehill to its fourth NE-10 Championship sweep in program history last Sunday as the men's squad won its fifth championship overall and the women's team claimed its 10th title overall, all under Boen's watch.

Stonehill placed 15 athletes on their respective NE-10 All-Conference teams – the most in program history - with the women earning nine nominations and the men garnering six. The Skyhawks eclipsed their previous high-water mark of 14 set in 2004 and 2007.

Stonehill returns to action on Sunday, November 6 at the NCAA Division II East Regionals in Dorchester, Mass. at Franklin Park. The women's team, ranked 14th overall in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II national poll and first in the East Regional poll, looks to claim its third-straight East Regionals title.

The men's squad, ranked 23rd overall in the latest USTFCCCA Division II national poll and second in the East Regional poll, will attempt to capture its first team championship since 2007. The Skyhawks' men's squad has finished in second place the last three seasons.
