#21 Stonehill Places 21st at NCAA Championships

Fullerton leads tightly packed Skyhawk finishers with 117th place showing

 LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 4, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked 21st in the final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, placed 21st at the NCAA Division II men's cross country championships held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park as part of the 2010 NCAA Fall Championships festival this afternoon.

Stonehill compiled 539 team points to finish 21st out of the 24 teams competing at the championships. Adams State College captured its third-straight national championship with a dominating performance by finishing with 57 points after placing its five scoring runners in the top 22. Western State University was second (102 points), while Grand Valley State University rounded out the top three (135). Queens (N.C.) University senior Michael Crouch won the individual national title by completing the ten-kilometer course in 30:43.2.

Senior Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) led the way for Stonehill by finishing 117th out of 182 runners overall in 33:21.0.

Classmate Daniel Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) was close behind in 120th overall with his time of 33:26.1, while sophomore Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep) was 122nd in 33:34.5. Freshman Scott Waller (Andover, Mass./Andover) finished 124th in 33:36.4, just ahead of junior Stephen Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) in 125th with his time of 33:36.8.

Stonehill was making its eighth-straight trip to the NCAA Championships after turning in second place finishes at both the NCAA East Regional and Northeast-10 Conference Championships earlier this fall.
