Duffy leads three double-winners for Skyhawks in fall finale

EASTON, Mass. (October 11, 2019) – Stonehill College closed out its fall schedule with a key in-region victory over University of the District of Columbia in non-conference men's tennis action inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

Sophomores Vincent Huynh and Juan Camilo Riano Rojas and freshman Christian Duffy led Stonehill to the key in-region victory by picking up both singles and doubles points in the match. Duffy and senior Manu Ravichandrakumar teamed up to clinch the doubles point for the Skyhawks with their 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Duffy followed by posting Stonehill's first singles point with his 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against UDC freshman Louis Mangeon.

Huynh and Riano Rojas posted Stonehill's first doubles win with their 6-1 win at No. 1. Riano Rojas followed that up by hanging on for a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) decision at No. 5 singles against UDC sophomore Maksim Bahdanovich to clinch the match win for the Skyhawks. Huynh also registered a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 win at No. 4 singles against freshman Juan Estevez Hernandez.

Senior Aaron Diamond and juniors Trent Newman and Russell White also earned singles wins for Stonehill in the match. White used two giant rallies to claim his three set triumph at No. 3 singles against UDC freshman Enzo Alavaski. White was down 3-5 and 40-0 against serve in the first set, staving off three set points in the ninth game to provide a spark and take the set in a tiebreaker (7-5). He then trailed 1-4 in the third set before rallying to take the match with another tiebreaker (7-3).

Stonehill wraps up its fall season with a 3-0 record overall and will announce its spring championship schedule in the coming weeks. UDC (3-1, 0-0 ECC) visits Bentley University tomorrow at 5 p.m.
