Chong and Patrick lead Ravens to key NE10 win

EASTON, Mass. (April 25, 2019) – Franklin Pierce University, ranked seventh in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, won a pair of three-set singles matches to clinch a 5-2 triumph over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action on Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Sophomores Roberto Chong and Nkrumah Patrick led three double-winners for Franklin Pierce in the win. Chong and Patrick teamed up to clinch the doubles point for Franklin Pierce by rallying for a 7-6 (7-2) triumph at No. 1 doubles. Chong, ranked 12th in the Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings, gave the Ravens a 2-0 lead with his 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill sophomore Trent Newman. Patrick provided the match-clinching point for Franklin Pierce by grinding out a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles over freshman Vincent Huynh.

Senior James Bisazza, ranked 16th in the Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings, was the remaining double-winner for Franklin Pierce, rallying from a set down for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles over junior Samuel Miller. He had earlier helped the Ravens offset a Stonehill doubles win with a 7-5 decision at No. 3 doubles with classmate Andrew Schadt. Junior Yuval Barak also picked up a singles win for the Ravens.

Sophomore Russell White was a double-winner for Stonehill. He combined with freshman Juan Camilo Riano Rojas to give the Skyhawks an early doubles edge with their 6-3 win at No. 2. White followed that up by battling back from a set down for a 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles against Franklin Pierce freshman Preston Gordon. Junior Aaron Diamond added a win at No. 6 singles for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (12-9, 4-5 NE10) will be the No. 6 seed for next week's NE10 Tournament and will visit third-seeded Bentley University for a first round matchup next Tuesday, April 30. More details will be released once the final NE10 Tournament seeds are set. Franklin Pierce (11-8, 5-3 NE10) closes out its regular season by hosting Merrimack College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
