White earned wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles, the latter of which provided the match clinching point for the Skyhawks

White a double-winner to lead Skyhawks to third straight win

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 7, 2019) – Stonehill College won five of six singles matches to claim a 5-2 victory over Cedarville University of Ohio to conclude its spring break trip at the United States Tennis Association's National Campus this afternoon.

Sophomore Russell White led Stonehill as a double-winner as the Skyhawks wrapped up its southern journey with a third-straight win. Cedarville took two of the three doubles matches to hold a 1-0 edge heading into singles play, but White and sophomore Aleksander Lazowski teamed up for Stonehill's lone doubles win with their 6-4 decision at No. 2. White then provided the match-clinching point for the Skyhawks by battling past Cedarville freshman Timmy O'Brien 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 10-8 at No. 4 singles.

Senior Matt Brumbaugh was a double-winner for Cedarville, combining with junior Alex Totten to clinch the doubles point for the Yellow Jackets with their 6-4 decision at No. 1. Brumbaugh would provide the Yellow Jackets only singles win with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Stonehill junior Samuel Miller at No. 2.

Junior Aaron Diamond earned Stonehill's first point with his 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles against sophomore Philip Brumbaugh. Freshmen Vincent Huynh and Juan Camilo Riano Rojas pulled the Skyhawks within a point of the win with their three-set super tiebreak wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Both won their opening sets 6-1, before dropping the second 2-6, and then fighting past their opponents in the super tiebreakers. Huynh edged freshman Cole Moss 13-11, while Riano Rojas defeated freshman Dawson Poling 10-7 in their tiebreaker.

Sophomore Trent Newman also went to a third set super tiebreak for his victory at No. 1 singles for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (7-2, 0-0 NE10) is now off until Saturday, March 16, when it returns home to host Roger Williams College at 1 p.m. Cedarville (9-1, 0-0 GMAC) faces Saint Anselm College tomorrow at 8 a.m.
