NE10 Tennis Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (February 20, 2019) – Stonehill College junior Samuel Miller has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for men's tennis by the league office today.

Miller helped Stonehill mount a comeback in its lone match of the week at Wheaton College on Sunday to open its spring schedule. The Skyhawks trailed 3-0 after doubles play, dropping two of the three matches in tiebreakers, before Miller put their first point on the board with his 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles against Wheaton sophomore Javier Esteban de Celis. Stonehill would go on to knot the match at 4-4, before falling in tiebreakers in the second and third sets at the final singles match of the afternoon.

Miller has posted a combined 14-6 record in singles and doubles play in his first season at Stonehill after transferring from Division I Saint Francis (Pa.) University when it suspended its program for a year in August. He is now 7-2 in singles play, including a 3-1 dual match record, splitting a pair of matches at No. 1 singles. Miller is a combined 7-4 in doubles matches with three different playing partners. He also collected NE10 Player of the Week honors on October 9 after helping lead the Skyhawks to a 9-0 win over UMass Dartmouth and reaching the B-singles final and winning the B-doubles consolation final at the Connecticut College Invitational during the fall.

Miller earned the Coaches' Award at Saint Francis following the 2017-18 season, competing at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles. He enjoyed a prolific career at Smithfield High School, where he was a four-time All-State performer, earning Providence Journal All-Scholastic honors.

Stonehill (3-1, 0-0 NE10) is back in action on Sunday, when it hosts Colby-Sawyer College at the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex at 1 p.m.
