Bellio and Newman lead Skyhawks to back-to-back wins

MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA, Mass. (February 23, 2018) – Stonehill College built off last weekend's win over a regionally-ranked opponent with a 9-0 victory over Gordon College in non-conference men's tennis action inside the Manchester Athletic Center tonight.

Senior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) and freshman Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington) led four double-winners for Stonehill. The duo started by posting an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles, with Bellio following that up with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 1 singles against Gordon senior Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, California/Dos Pueblos). Newman added a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles against junior Nathan Lookwhy (Westborough, Massachusetts/Westborough).

Senior Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) and sophomore Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) also earned double points for Stonehill. Buckley and freshman Joey Conrod (Newtown, Connecticut/Newtown) posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles for the Skyhawks, with Buckley adding a 6-4, 6-1 decision over senior Michael D'Antuono (Mapleville, Rhode Island/Burrillville). Ravichandrakumar and freshman Russell White (Toronto, Ontario/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) completed the Skyhawks doubles sweep with their 8-3 win at No. 2. Ravichandrakumar also picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over sophomore Jonathan Frink (La Crescenta, California/Crescenta Valley) at No. 3 singles.

Senior Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) and sophomore Aaron Diamond (Moultonborough, New Hampshire/Moultonborough Academy) also added singles wins for Stonehill.

Stonehill (3-2, 0-0 NE10) is right back in action on Sunday, when it opens its spring home schedule by hosting Wheaton College inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex at 1 p.m. Gordon (1-4, 0-0 CCC) is off until it heads to the West Coast for spring break, opening against Occidental College in Los Angeles at 5 p.m.
