Men's Tennis Notches First Win, Shuts Out UMass Dartmouth, 9-0

Newman and White lead Skyhawks as double-winners

EASTON, Mass. (September 28, 2017) – Stonehill College collected its first win of the season with a 9-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Freshmen Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington) and Russell White (Toronto, Ontario/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) were both double-winners to lead Stonehill to the sweep. Newman teamed up with senior Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and then Newman added a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against UMass Dartmouth senior Patrick Pacheco (Fall River, Massachusetts/Durfee).

White and sophomore Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) combined to post an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. White then added a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles over freshman Tristin Viale (Westfield, Massachusetts/Westfield). Senior Jeff Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School), sophomore Aaron Diamond (Moultonborough, New Hampshire/Moultonborough Academy) and freshmen Aleksander Lazowski (Kingston, Massachusetts/BC High) and Jonathan Gordon (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) all chipped in with singles wins for the Skyhawks. Freshmen Joey Conrod (Newtown, Connecticut/Newtown) and Jeffrey Eng (Guilford, Connecticut/Guilford) contributed an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

Stonehill (1-1, 0-0 NE10) closes out its fall schedule next Saturday, October 7, when it competes at the Connecticut College Invitational. UMass Dartmouth (0-1, 0-0 LEC) hosts Eastern Nazarene College on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
