NE10 Tennis Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (September 13, 2017) – Stonehill College freshmen Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington) and Russell White (Toronto, Ontario/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) have been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Co-Player and Rookies of the Week by the league office following a strong debut weekend for the doubles pairing.

Newman and White teamed up to win the A-Bracket at the season-opening Stonehill Doubles Invitational, hosted by the College, on Saturday. The duo won a pair of matches by a tiebreaker, including their 8-7 (7-4) triumph over the Coast Guard Academy tandem of Tom Hackett and Adam Bahney in the final. The Skyhawks opened the event with an 8-7 (8-6) decision over Alex Partyka and Henry Siercke of Eastern Nazarene College in the quarterfinals and then defeated the Connecticut College combo of Ben Sachs and SangJin Song, 8-4 in the semifinals.

Newman and White collect the first NE10 Player and Rookie of the Week honors of the fall season with their performance. Stonehill (0-0, 0-0 NE10) returns to action on Wednesday, September 20, when it hosts NCAA Division I College of the Holy Cross for a non-conference dual match at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.
