Le Moyne Shuts Out Men's Tennis, 9-0

Blythe, Gayvert and Doney lead Dolphins to key NE10 win

EASTON, Mass. (April 12, 2017) – Le Moyne College, ranked No. 8 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, swept its way to a 9-0 victory over Stonehill College in a key Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis match at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Senior James Gayvert (Fairport, New York/Fairport), junior Hallam Doney (Andover, England) and freshman Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland) fired Le Moyne into position to claim a spot in next week's NE10 Tournament as double-winners this afternoon. Blythe and Doney, the tenth-ranked doubles team in the East Region by the ITA, clinched a 3-0 sweep of doubles play with their 8-5 decision at No. 1. Blythe, ranked tenth in the East for singles, followed that up with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill junior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph), while Doney edged freshman Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3.

Gayvert and sophomore Tyler Underwood (Minoa, New York/East Syracuse-Minoa) posted an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles for Le Moyne. He followed that up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles against Stonehill junior Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers). Junior Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and freshman Josh Sagaille (Schenectady, New York/Justine Henin Academy) also notched singles and doubles wins for the Dolphins.

Stonehill (6-8, 4-4 NE10) closes out the regular season on Saturday at Adelphi University, ranked No. 8 in this week's NCAA Division II East Regional rankings and 5th in the most recent Oracle/ITA East rankings, at noon. The Skyhawks need a win and some help to earn a spot in next week's NE10 Tournament. Le Moyne (8-8, 3-4 NE10) opens a string of three-straight home matches to cap the regular season tomorrow when it hosts Saint Thomas Aquinas College, ranked tenth in the ITA East rankings, for a non-conference matchup at 2 p.m.
