Juniors Lead Men's Tennis Past Saint Anselm, 6-3


Buckley dropped just three games over three sets of play in singles and doubles today.

Bellio, Lisichenok and Buckley lead four double-winners for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (April 8, 2017) – Stonehill College won for the third time in four matches with a 6-3 victory over Saint Anselm College at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Juniors Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph), Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) and Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) led the way for Stonehill as double-winners in the match. Bellio and Lisichenok clinched a 2-1 Skyhawks advantage following doubles play with their 8-3 win at No. 1. Bellio followed that up with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Saint Anselm junior Eric Howes (Shawnee, Kansas/Mill Valley) to improve to 5-1 in NE10 singles matches this season. Lisichenok added a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 over junior Adam Weinstein (Vernon Rockville, Connecticut/East Catholic).

Buckley teamed up with freshman Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)), Stonehill's fourth double-winner in the match, for an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Buckley finished with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles against junior Brian Kavanagh (Wilbraham, Massachusetts/Minnechaug Regional), while Ravichandrakumar rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 win at No. 3 singles against sophomore Daniel Kmetz (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM).

Kavanagh and sophomore Brian Madden (Manchester, New Hampshire/Trinity) earned Saint Anselm's doubles point with an 8-5 win at No. 3. Juniors Kyle Harris (North Reading, Massachusetts/North Reading) and Benji Page (Concord, Massachusetts/Gould Academy) added wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles for the Hawks, respectively.

Stonehill (6-6, 4-2 NE10) returns to the courts on Monday when it hosts Assumption College for a key NE10 match at Watt Courts at 3:30 p.m. Saint Anselm (4-13, 1-7 NE10) is off until next Saturday when it wraps up its season by hosting regionally-ranked Merrimack College at noon.
