Stonehill Tops Eastern Nazarene in Regular Season Finale, 8-1

Hyzak and Ringstad lead Skyhawks with singles and doubles wins 

QUINCY, Mass. (April 14, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, closed out the regular season with an 8-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in non-conference men's tennis action at ENC Courts this afternoon.

Senior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and junior Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) led three double-winners for Stonehill in the win to cap the regular season. Ringstad and senior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) combined to lead a sweep of the three doubles matches for the Skyhawks with their 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles. Ringstad followed with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles against Eastern Nazarene freshman Andres Biondi, while Armstrong was also among the double-winners by rallying for a 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 10-6 triumph at No. 5 singles against sophomore Davis Steelman.

Hyzak and junior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) notched an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles before Hyzak added a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 1 singles against junior Sam McKay-Corkum. Junior Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) posted wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles for Stonehill. He and junior Jon Sanders (Holbrook, N.Y./St. Anthony's) teamed up for an 8-4 doubles win and then Alaimo added a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 singles decision against sophomore Kevin Paterno. Sophomore Philip Klados (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) chipped in with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles against junior Tyler Perron.

Senior Nick Thompson picked up Eastern Nazarene's lone point with his 8-4 pro-set win at No. 6 singles against Stonehill senior Taylor Whitcomb (Round Top, N.Y./Cairo-Durham).

Stonehill (12-8, 6-4 NE-10) is off until next Tuesday, April 22, when it opens the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament as the No. 5 seed with a first round match at either Adelphi University, Southern New Hampshire University or Bentley University, whichever of the three finishes as the No. 4 seed pending the final week of results. Eastern Nazarene (6-9, 3-3 CCC) hosts Western New England University on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
