Ringstad leads Skyhawks to tenth win
MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (April 6, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, cruised to an 8-1 victory at Post University in non-conference men's tennis action at Edgewood Bath and Tennis Club this afternoon.
Junior Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) led Stonehill to victory with wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. He teamed up with senior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) to lead a sweep of the three doubles matches for the Skyhawks with their 8-4 win. Ringstad followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Post sophomore Peter Fanous in singles play. Armstrong was also a double-winner for Stonehill by adding a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 5 singles against freshman Tyler Ruefenacht.
Senior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) combined with junior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Hyzak added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against junior Nicholas Tadros, while Drzal registered a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 6 singles against senior Danny Bonamassa. Junior Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill with victories at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles. He and classmate Jon Sanders (Holbrook, N.Y./St. Anthony's) claimed an 8-5 doubles win before Alaimo added a 6-1, 6-3 victory over sophomore David Narovec.
Freshman Alejandro Perez earned Post's lone point by rallying from a set down for a 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 win at No. 3 singles against Stonehill sophomore Philip Klados (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic).
Stonehill (10-7, 5-3 NE-10) returns to action on Thursday when it visits Assumption College to make up a postponed Northeast-10 Conference match from March 30 at 3 p.m. Post (5-8, 2-1 CACC) hosts American International College on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
