Alaimo earns singles and doubles wins for Skyhawks 

EASTON, Mass. (April 2, 2014) – Gustavus Adolphus College, ranked 18th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III rankings, edged Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the ITA Division II East Regional rankings, 5-4 in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this evening.

Senior Logan Peterson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) led three double-winners for Gustavus Adolphus, which is on a six match New England tour this week from Saint Peter, Minn. Peterson helped the Golden Gusties to a 2-1 advantage after doubles play as he combined with senior Bryan Miles (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Peterson followed that up with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against Stonehill junior Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) that provided the match-clinching point.

Sophomores Mitchell Elofson (Saint Peter, Minn./Saint Peter) and David Brown (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) also earned doubles and singles wins for Gustavus. The duo combined to clinch the 2-1 doubles break with their 8-6 decision at No. 3. Elofson added a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles against sophomore Philip Klados (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic), while Brown posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 against senior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy).

Junior Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) led Stonehill with wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles. He and junior Jon Sanders (Holbrook, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) recorded the Skyhawks lone doubles win with an 8-6 decision at No. 2. Alaimo followed with a back and forth 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 11-9 victory over junior Matt Baker (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) at No. 4 singles.

Senior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against Miles in his final regular season home match for Stonehill. Junior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) wrapped up the point-winners for the Skyhawks with his 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 decision over junior Matt Bettes (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley).

Stonehill (9-6, 5-2 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it visits Adelphi University, ranked tenth in the region, for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 2 p.m. Gustavus Adolphus (21-3, 6-0 MIAC) visits Middlebury College on Friday at 3 p.m.
