Bentley Battles Past Stonehill, 5-4

Falcons take four of six singles matches after Skyhawks win two of three doubles 

WALTHAM, Mass. (March 27, 2014) – Bentley University, ranked eighth in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, bounced back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to win four of six singles matches and come away with a 5-4 victory over Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the region, in a key Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis match this afternoon.

Senior Jimmy Rindo (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) led Bentley to the win as a double-winner. He combined with sophomore Sam Frye (Redlands, Calif./Redlands) for a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles for the Falcons lone doubles win before posting a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill senior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford). Senior Andrew Waddington (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) posted a 6-2, 6-3 decision over junior Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) at No. 2 singles, while sophomore Kamil Pilch (Wroclaw, Poland) rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 against sophomore Philip Klados (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic). Freshman Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick Academy) closed out the Falcons four singles wins with his 6-2, 6-1 win over senior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) at No. 5.

Junior Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) was a double-winner for Stonehill with victories at No. 3 doubles and No. 4 singles. He teamed up with classmate Jon Sanders (Holbrook, N.Y./St. Anthony's) for an 8-5 doubles win and then posted a 6-2, 6-1 singles win over Frye. Ringstad and Armstrong also claimed a doubles win for the Skyhawks with their 9-7 decision at No. 1 over Pilch and junior Alex DeMuth (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School). Junior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) added a point at No. 6 singles as sophomore Evan Chomka (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) retired with Drzal leading 7-6 (7-4), 2-1.

Stonehill (8-4, 4-1 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts American International College at 1 p.m. Bentley (7-5, 6-0 NE-10) hosts American International next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
