Armstrong and Ringstad lead Skyhawks double-winners
MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 134, 2013) – Stonehill College rolled to a 9-0 victory over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action this afternoon.
Senior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) and junior Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) led three double-winners for Stonehill in its NE-10 opener. The duo combined for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles and then Ringstad followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles over freshman Aidan Roach. Armstrong breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles against Peter O'Connell.
Sophomore Philip Klados (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) rounded out the Stonehill double-winners without dropping a single game in singles and doubles play. He teamed up with junior Jon Sanders (Holbrook, N.Y./St. Anthony's) for an 8-0 triumph at No. 2 doubles and then swept his way to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over Phil Hodgkins. Senior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Mass./Guilford) earned a point for the Skyhawks with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Andrew Overton. Junior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) notched a point with his 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles against Shane Archambault.
Stonehill (2-0, 1-0 NE-10) returns to the courts next Saturday when it visits Le Moyne College for an NE-10 matchup at 11 a.m. The Skyhawks return home to host its Stonehill Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6. Holy Cross (0-1, 0-0 Patriot) will participate in the Connecticut College Tournament tomorrow.
