Southern New Hampshire Edges Stonehill, 5-4

Dobek, Wallace and Arango-Campo lead Penmen to big victory

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. (April 12, 2013) – Southern New Hampshire University, ranked seventh in the NCAA Division II East Regional rankings and fifth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, rode a 2-1 advantage after doubles play to a 5-4 victory over Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the NCAA II East Regional rankings and tenth in the ITA Regional rankings, in a key Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis matchup at Allard Center YMCA this afternoon.

Juniors Mitch Dobek (Westfield, Mass./Saint Mary) and Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Columbia) and sophomore Mike Wallace (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Salesian) led Southern New Hampshire to the win as the Penmen won each of the top two doubles matches and then claimed victories at the top three singles flights to clinch the win. Dobek and Wallace, the fifth-ranked doubles team in the region by the ITA, posted an 8-3 decision at No. 1 doubles, while Arango-Campo and sophomore Evan Eaton (Winchester, Mass./New Hampton School) clinched a big 8-6 victory at No. 2.

Dobek, the ninth-ranked singles player in the region by the ITA, added a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles over Stonehill sophomore Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic). Arango-Campo, ranked tenth in the region, posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over junior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) at No. 2 singles, while Wallace claimed a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over sophomore Thomas Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) at No. 3.

Freshman Philip Klados (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) and junior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) were double-winners for Stonehill. The duo combined for the Skyhawks lone doubles win with an 8-6 decision at No. 3. Klados then added a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 comeback win at No. 4 singles over Southern New Hampshire junior Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn./Rocky Hill). Armstrong collected a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles over Eaton. Senior Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) also notched a point for Stonehill with his 6-2, 6-0 victory over sophomore Brad Malenich (Sharon, Mass./Sharon) at No. 5 singles.

Stonehill (15-7, 6-2 NE-10) closes out the regular season tomorrow when it hosts Merrimack College, ranked fifth in the region, for Senior Day at 1 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (12-6, 7-1 NE-10) visits Bentley University, ranked eighth in the region for a key matchup tomorrow at 11 a.m.
