Martin and Bergeron lead Skyhawks to win in first dual match

EASTON, Mass. (September 15, 2010) – Stonehill College posted a 6-3 victory over Clark University in its first dual match of the season in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this evening.

Junior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham), sophomore Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) and freshman Conor Fallon (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) were all double-winners for Stonehill. Bergeron and Martin first teamed up for an 8-6 decision at second doubles for the Skyhawks, while Fallon combined with junior Jonathan Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) for an 8-3 win at third doubles.

Martin breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Clark sophomore Harris Rollinger (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) at third singles and Bergeron picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over sophomore Dan Paradee (Gardiner, Maine/Gardiner) at fifth singles. Fallon notched a 6-2, 6-3 win in his collegiate debut over senior Nathan Maltais (Seabrook, N.H./Winnacunnet) at sixth singles.

Sophomore Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) was a double-winner for Clark, picking up a 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 win over senior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) at first singles after teaming up with Rollinger for an 8-5 victory over Fayed and freshman Nicholas Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) at first doubles.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action this weekend when it participates in the Wilson/ITA Division II East Regional, hosted by Chestnut Hill College, in Philadelphia on Saturday and Sunday. The Skyhawks return home on Tuesday, September 21, when they host Franklin Pierce University for their Northeast-10 Conference opener at 6 p.m. Clark (0-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) returns to action on Friday, September 24, for the Wilson/ITA Division III Regionals, hosted by Williams College.
